Designer Jewelry Trends at the Costume Institute's Annual Gala
By Carly Wickell, About.com Guide
May 7, 2012, was the night
celebrities walked the red carpet for the annual Costume Institute Gala
at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Gala is always a huge event, so
important that it's sometimes called 'New York's Oscars.' Celebrities who attend the Gala often dress to interpret the year's theme. For 2012, the theme is Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations,
which explores the similarities and differences between two Italian
designers, Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1973) and today's Miuccia Prada.
The exhibition displays about 120 Schiaparelli designs and accessories from the late 1920s to the early 1950s and Prada fashions from the late 1980s to today. Videos of conversations between the two accompany the exhibit, with actress Judy Davis portraying Schiaparelli. The exhibit will run from May 10 to August 19, 2012.
